"I'll never know, and neither will you, of the life you don't choose. We'll only know that whatever that sister life was, it was important and beautiful and not ours. It was the ghost ship that didn't carry us. There's nothing to do but salute it

from the shore."

"If you could do anything, what would you do?"

Yep, that’s me at 14, a clueless baby!

(Clueless Babies would be a

great name for a band!)

I used to be an aspiring young singer. Singing and performing was like a fire in my bones. I even sang in a Top 40 Dance Band in the 80’s. Then this other thing happened - I met Dean. We married. We had Ken. Then Dan. Then Nick. Then Will. I didn’t have time to aspire anymore. That dream was swallowed up by new dreams. So over time, the fire went out.

Or so I thought...

“If you could do anything, what would you do?”

The new dream - surrounded by handsome men

It's the kind of question you ask your bestie on a road trip after you've listened to a dozen podcasts and you’re hoarse from singing along with the Hamilton soundtrack.

I’ve thought about this question before but never been brave enough to speak the truth aloud. This time, when a friend pressed me for an answer, it wasn’t just me who replied, it was the woman in that sister life, a stranger, calling out from a ghost ship, "Sing."

I realized the fire of that dream was still smoldering somewhere inside me. Could it be fanned back to some kind of life? Even for a moment?

And that is where you come in - my family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, acquaintances, person who found a flyer, crumpled, blowing down 9th Street like a tumbleweed.....help me make this CRAZY DREAM a reality and be part of the audience at my mini concert. Because a concert without an audience is just sad and lame.

Hate music? Bring earplugs and enjoy all the soft drinks and tacos you can eat from 44 Canteen. Hate tacos? Well, you’re a weirdo. But it’s ok, there will be dessert. And if you don't like dessert then I can't help you. Are we even friends?

After the Show

Did I really pull this off? Maybe...?

"When you told us you were planning on this concert, I thought I had some idea of what to expect. I have always known you have a beautiful voice. What I did not expect was to feel so much of your love and bright spirit. The way you weaved in your experiences and love for everyone in your life was beyond moving. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud to have you as my mom. I’m so glad I got to be a part of it."

able to be there. WOW!!!"

"Lorie, just wanted to tell you that I thought your performance was amazing. The Chrissie Hynde song, Brass in Pocket, was spot on. Lots and lots of talent and a humble stage presence."

"Everyone who attended was excited to witness this once in a lifetime event. There wasn’t a dry eye in the concert hall. It was moving to listen to each and every song and beautiful to hear you narrate important life events. It was beautiful to see you dedicate different parts of your concert to the people you love in your life. Grandma Sonja would have been beaming with pride."

"I knew you were a good singer but I

didn’t realize you were THAT good. I was mesmerized the whole time and truly touched by the vulnerability and joy you shared that night. Thank you for letting us be a part of it! I am consistently impressed by your courage to pursue your dreams. I hope that I am able to follow in your footsteps throughout my own life."

"I remember a conversation a few years ago where you made it clear that you and dad would support the educational goals of all your daughters-in-law and you told me to dream big. You mentioned your youthful dream of becoming a singer. Although you didn't become the next Joni Mitchell in the first phase of your life, the second phase is very impressive and exciting. You have completed Step One: 'Blow Everyone Away at the Blue Note.' The next steps are to have fun with your voice, treat it with kindness, and record the music that

makes you happy. You will reach your goal because I know you will work toward it

with reckless abandon."

"Seeing your concert was really cool and I can't imagine how much time and effort went into it. I always knew you could sing, and even still I was really impressed. I know it's really nerve-wrackiing performing in front of a bunch of people, and it's even worse when it's people you know instead of just strangers. But you never once seemed nervous. It was also nice to see how many people came out to support you."

"I can confidently say this was the best show I’ve seen at the Blue Note (and I’ve seen Aaron Carter… twice). I knew it would be amazing, but I didn’t expect to weep through the whole show, to feel loved and inspired, and to feel so proud of you (in the least patronizing way possible). I keep thinking, 'what will my 60th celebration look like? Will I be brave enough to share my talents with my entire town and community too?' I’m so excited for Sonja and Noor to know how talented their GG is and that they have this example to follow.

Thanks for sharing this concert with us

and most especially, thanks for

sharing your love."

"I know you worked harder than anyone knew, as you prepared for this concert.  I also know how many light years outside of your comfort zone you were.  I knew you would be great, but when you performed, it was magical.  It was absolutely and stunningly amazing.  I invited many people to the concert.  Those who came invariably say, 'I loved it… when is she going to do it again?'  Those who didn’t attend ask me, 'How was it?'  I tell them 'It was a magical evening, the best night of my life. So sorry you missed out.' I still have patients tell me they heard my wife gave a great concert. I ask, 'How did you know?'  They say, 'One of your techs told me; and she showed me some videos of your wife singing!'  This is weeks after the actual performance.  I’m incredibly proud of you and amazed at the impact this performance has had on so many wonderful people."
